Depression is the most common psychological disorder in our culture. 34 million American adults suffer from depression every year.

It can be triggered by external events (loss of a loved one, loss of a job or career, financial setback, etc.) or internal events (i.e. transition from one stage of life to the next.)

Clinical depression is more than a sad mood. It is the result of an imbalance in brain chemistry and manifests itself in both psychological and physiological symptoms. Common symptoms include sad mood, decreased energy and motivation, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, suicidal ideation, changes in libido, sleep and appetite and loss of ability to experience pleasure.

Highly effective treatments exist to deal with depression. Optimal results are achieved with a combination of psychotherapy and medication.
